Barite is a mineral form and a principle ore of Barium Sulfate, and its chemical formula is BaSO4. It derives its name from the Greek word “Barys” which means heavy as it has an exceptionally high specific gravity of 4.5 for non-metallic minerals (heavy spar is another term used to refer to Barite). It doesn’t react with chemicals much; it makes it ideal for a range of industrial, medical, and manufacturing purposes. Its hardness ranges from 3 to 3.5 Mohs, and a rhombic holohedral system characterizes it.
